# Engineering overview

Configure a design's electrical equipment and prepare engineering outputs.

Engineering adds electrical equipment, wiring, and plan-set tools to a design.

## Access

An Engineering seat provides engineering access. A person with a Design seat can also work on a design that has engineering access through an Engineering voucher.

If access is needed, Solesca shows a confirmation explaining the voucher use or required seat. Review it before proceeding. See [Members and seats](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/admin/members/) and [Billing](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/admin/billing/).

## Set up engineering

Switch the design to engineering mode and open the setup dialog. Work through:

| Step | What to review |
| --- | --- |
| Interconnection | How the system connects to the grid. |
| Conductors | Wire defaults, conductor ratings, and DC wiring requirements. |
| Inverters | Inverter configuration and related DC equipment. |
| Grid | Boards, monitoring, interconnection equipment, utility requirements, and design notes. |
| Summary | The proposed equipment arrangement and any errors. |

Click **Apply** after reviewing the summary. Correct any reported issue before continuing.

> **Applying setup again**
>
> Applying a new engineering setup replaces the equipment arrangement and clears equipment placement work. Duplicate the design first if you want to preserve the current arrangement.

Design notes and strings-per-combiner edits can save while you are working in the dialog. Closing without applying does not undo those edits.

## Complete the design

Review [stringing and wiring](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/engineering/wiring/), then [place equipment](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/engineering/equipment/). Check the design in 3D and resolve warnings before downloading [engineering outputs](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/downloads/engineering/).

Engineering designs use Solesca Pro for energy modeling. See [Model energy](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/editor/simulate/).
