# Layers panel

Select, organize, locate, hide, and lock objects in a design.

Source: https://docs.staging.solesca.com/editor/layers/

The **Layers** panel lists the design's objects. Its **Fields**, **Obstr**, and **Civil** lanes separate arrays and inverter groups, obstructions, and site or imported layers.

## Select

Click a row to select it on the map and open its inspector. Use `Ctrl`-click on Windows or `⌘`-click on Mac to add to a selection. `Shift`-click selects a range.

Selecting on the map also selects the corresponding row. Use `Esc` to clear the selection.

## Layer actions

Right-click a row to see the actions available for that object and your access.

- Rename a layer to identify its purpose.
- Locate a layer to bring it into view.
- Copy and paste supported objects.
- Group related objects or move them between compatible groups.
- Show or hide a layer.
- Lock or make a layer editable.
- Delete a layer you no longer need.

Actions that cannot apply to the selection are disabled or omitted. Ordinary groups organize objects; [inverter groups](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/editor/inverter-groups/) also define electrical allocation.

## Hide and show

Use the eye beside a row. Hiding a group hides its contents. Review layer visibility before modeling and exporting, since hidden fields and objects can be excluded from the result.

## Rename and delete

Double-click a layer's name, or use **Rename** in its menu. Save the name with `Enter` and cancel with `Esc`.

Press `Delete` or `Backspace` to delete a selection when you are not typing. Use Undo to reverse an accidental edit.

## Lock

A layer lock prevents changes to that layer while allowing you to inspect it. A design lock preserves the whole design. See [Design versions and locks](https://docs.staging.solesca.com/start/projects-and-designs/#design-versions-and-locks).

## Search

Press `Ctrl+F` or `⌘F` to search layer names. The lanes show matching results. Use `Enter` and `Shift+Enter` in the search box to move between matches.

Close the search to restore the full list. **Collapse layers** closes expanded groups.

## Show or resize the panel

Use the layers button at the top left, or `Ctrl+B` / `⌘B`, to toggle the panel. Drag its edge to resize it. **Map layers** may temporarily take its place while open.
